Team VM Sharing

Team VM Sharing lets admins open their team’s running labs and view or operate any VM. This works even if someone else launched the deployment and the admin isn’t on its assignment roster.

Required role: Lab Admin

A user with the Lab Admin permission can open any VM running under their team, whenever they need to. The team member doesn’t have to send an invite, transfer ownership, or click anything. When an admin opens a subordinate’s deployment, every VM in it is visible and ready to use right away, the same as if the admin had launched it.

This applies to:

  • VMs in scenarios the team member is working through now
  • VMs in scenarios the team member hasn’t started yet
  • VMs in scenarios the team member has finished
  • Any deployment the team member launched, whether or not it’s marked complete
  • Instructor over-the-shoulder support: open a stuck student’s VM to watch their session, type alongside them, or take the keyboard to demonstrate a step.
  • Live troubleshooting: diagnose a broken plugin or misconfigured machine without asking the team member to share their screen.
  • Spot-checking submissions: check that a flag was captured the right way and wasn’t guessed and pasted.
  • Demoing solutions: open a finished scenario from any team member to walk a third party through the exploit path.
  • Recovery handoffs: if a team member’s VM hangs or their session drops, an admin can open it directly and save the work without redeploying.

Subordinate deployments appear on the main dashboard, so you don’t need to go through Team Hub.

  1. Open the main dashboard (the default landing page after sign-in).
  2. In the My Scenarios panel at the lower left, scroll to your team’s scenarios header. For Lab Admins it shows your organization’s name, for example Acme’s Scenarios, and every deployment running under your team is listed here automatically.
  3. Click the deployment you want to inspect.
  4. Pick any VM in the topology. It opens in the same multi-tab viewer described in Operating a VM.
  5. View, control, transfer files, or connect over VPN, the same as the original assignee.

Closing the tab doesn’t affect the team member’s session. Several users can be on the same VM at once, because the platform supports simultaneous viewing.

To see which deployments are running across the team and what users are doing in them right now, use Active Operations.

An Org Manager grants Lab Admin on the Team Roster tab in Team Hub, usually to instructors or designated lab leads. See Team Permissions for the full role matrix.
